KOCHI: Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, one of India’s leading automotive companies, has launched Alfa Passenger, a modern diesel three-wheeler, in Kochi. The vehicle costing Rs.1.3 lakhs, has spacious cabins and strong structure, according to the company.
Launching the vehicle, the company’s DGM Marketing (Auto Sector), Hyder khan, said CNG and LPG versions of Alfa would be launched soon.
With an annual sales of approximately 2.2 lakh vehicles, the three-wheeler 3-seater passenger category has a big market potential. The segment is expected to grow further on account of infrastructure development and increasing transportation needs.
The three-wheeler 3-seater segment grew by 2 per cent in the current financial year over the last financial year. However, the petrol segment recorded a decline while the diesel segment grew by 18 per cent year-on-year.
The other major segment contributing to overall growth is the gas segment which grew by 42 per cent year-on-year. Presently, the diesel segment contributes to around 62 per cent of the total sales in the category while petrol contributes to 22 per cent, according to the company.
