9th Auto Expo: More than sexy cars, bikes
  The Economics Times : January17,2008

New Delhi: With the change of times there has always been a demand to make effective changes of the choice. Like the small cars have changed the way people used to travel in the 80’s, like inverters have replaced the generators because of noice, air pollution and fuel consumptions, 21st century brings you much more with the introduction of E-Bikes (battery operated two wheelers).

The continuous increase in the fuel prices has been burning a hole in the pocket of a normal man, to travel short distances petrol driven vehicles cost much more than the E-Bike.

It is a maintenance free, cost effective ,eco friendly ,battery operated bike which just needs a charging of 6 to 8 hours, a complete charged battery can take you up to 80 kms,it can be of great use to the people who travel short distances like students, service industry people, door to door service providers, senior citizens, etc.

So a smart ride for a smart generation is brought to you by a Delhi based company Xs Bikes headed by a team of experienced entrepreneurs. They have set up a manufacturing unit at Nalagrah (HP) for the manufacturing of E-Bikes with the technical collaboration with an international company, with European designs.

The E-Bike market is on the rise and is expected to reach its height in the next 2 years. New Delhi: What are a bunch of university students doing at the Auto Expo? Why, showcasing concept cars of course. A bunch of budding engineers from mechanical and electronics branch of Amity School of Engineering and Technology (ASET) showcased two vehicles that they have designed and developed. Namely, India's first 4WD BAJA Vehicle and India's first Tri-Fuel Amity Hybrid Car.

The seven members of the Team Mettle which put these together also participated in the BAJA SAE INDIA 2007 held at Pithampur recently where they designed the prototype of the 4WD BAJA Vehicle which won the best effort award. part from M&M which has been actively involved in BAJA SAE India, other auto companies have also come forward to encourage innovation. Global automotive biggie Delphi has extended financial assistance for further research on the prototype.

The concept cars that were on display at the Auto Expo showcased local engineering ideas. It’s the kind of stuff that ultimately made the Nano possible on a larger scale. The 4WD BAJA vehicle is a 4 wheel drive which gives high torque and better traction. There is also an option to shift from higher torque to higher speeds for increased driver comfort and better handling of the vehicle. It has a customized gearbox with gear ratio of 1:1 and an overdrive ratio of 5:1. It has double wishbone "V" type dual suspension.

The front suspension design is unique as it uses two springs instead of one on either side. The tubing used in the chassis is a chrome moly alloy steel which has much higher strength and is much stronger providing a solid framework. Some of the unique features of the car are: Use of high strength AISI 4130 steel tubes for chassis design;use of aluminum alloy 2014 T6, 2024 T6 and 6053 T6 which are used in the aviation industry. An innovative suspension design that reduces the load on the chassis. Differential locking system for better traction.
