The Concept - “Diesel Pavilion”
The Diesel pavilion is a unique initiative of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), which showcases the latest advancements in diesel and associated technologies. It is a combined effort by automobile and component manufacturers along oil companies to highlight the continuous developments in diesel and related technologies over the years through focused messages and displays.
The ‘Diesel Pavilion’ made its first appearance in the year 2008 at the 9th Auto Expo held from 10th to17th January in New Delhi. Located next to Hall 7 and christened Hall 7(I), Auto Expo for the first time had a ‘Diesel City’ - among the few concept pavilions in the international exhibition.
The 600 sq. meter pavilion at Hall 7(I) opened its doors on 11th January 2008, clarifying the many misconceptions surrounding diesel, clearing the myths, and establishing the facts of new vehicular diesel technologies and fuels. The Diesel City 2008 provided the perfect backdrop for the stakeholders to get a first hand feel and experience of clean diesel technology.
Each participant in the pavilion had an opportunity to showcase the various breakthrough technologies that has made Diesel a strategic fuel in the energy security of an economy. The Diesel Pavilion had many special features like the Diesel Museum which depicted the continuous developments surrounding diesel. There was an interactive side to all this through an exciting ‘Diesel Quiz’, which was held every hour each day and allowed visitors the opportunity to win fabulous prizes. This ensured participation from general public visiting the Diesel Pavilion. Besides mass participation, the Diesel pavilion also aimed to bring together national and international participation of select, high-profile individuals and organizations, as also Government representatives, to address key issues pertaining to Diesel and to reject myths while accepting realities about the fact that Diesel is clean and green.
The Diesel City got a further fillip when the Chief Minister of Delhi Ms. Shiela Dixit inaugurated the Pavilion.
Diesel Pavilion – 2010 Edition
Encouraged with the first edition, SIAM is committed to continue with this special initiative in its forthcoming Auto Expo 2010, exhibiting even more sophisticated technologies ready for the next emission norms -- BSIV -- to be introduced in April 2010. The second edition of Diesel Pavilion will focus on the next generation diesel vehicle, components and fuel after treatment technologies. Special attention will be kept on reaching out to the general masses and educating them on latest diesel technology developments.
As the Diesel Pavilion is well received and accepted concept for the automobile and related industries, the next edition is expected to achieve greater success in the forthcoming Auto Expo 2010. Needless to say the second edition promises even more exciting events and programmes during the entire duration of the Auto Expo.
